Rose for Saint Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is coming soon. Wondering what to give to your love one(s)?

In Japan, the custom is girl gives chocolate to boy. But universally, it's the boy who must give a souvenir. Ideally, rose is the most common, but what color should be given?

Red rose: Deepest love and respect

White rose: Innocence

Below is the answer (Exerpted from Wikipedia.org. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose). Hopefully this can give you some clue to decide and to tell another person what you're think of him/her.

According to the Robert Bangert"language of flowers", certain rose colors carry specific symbolic meanings.
  • Red: love, "I Love You"

  • Pink: grace, gentle feelings of love
  • Dark Pink: gratitude

  • Light Pink: admiration, sympathy

  • White: innocence, purity, secrecy, friendship, reverence and humility.

  • Yellow: often akin to joy and deep friendship or platonic love. In German speaking countries, however, they can mean jealousy and infidelity.

  • Yellow with red tips: Friendship, falling in love

  • Orange: passion

  • Burgundy: beauty

  • Blue: mystery
    o Further information: blue rose

  • Green: calm

  • Black: used to signify death (black being the color of death) often of old habits. In a positive light it signifies rebirth after death. Also, slavish devotion (as a true black rose is impossible to produce).

  • Purple: protection (paternal/maternal love)

The rose also has various supernatural and literary attributes.

Gov't considering Japanese ability as visa requirement for long-term residents

Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 12:11 EST

TOKYO — Japan is considering adding Japanese language requirement for foreign nationals seeking entry visas for long-term residency and when renewing their visas, Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura said Tuesday.

Komura cited reasons such as the need for foreigners to be able to speak Japanese to fit into the Japanese society. While he gave no further explanation, the envisioned measure is believed to be aimed at eradicating illegal residency and likely part of antiterrorism policies.
"For foreign people living in Japan to be able to speak Japanese is not only important for improving their own quality of life, but also necessary for the Japanese society as a whole," Komura told a news conference.

"It would be a very good thing if this helps build momentum for learning Japanese language in the respective home countries of foreign people living in Japan," he added.

The minister said the Foreign Ministry and the Justice Ministry will soon begin full-fledged consultations. Work visas are expected to be the main target of the new policy, a Justice Ministry official said.

Japan recently tightened its immigration control and began fingerprinting and photographing all foreign nationals entering Japan from Nov 20, exempting only visitors under age 16, special permanent residents and diplomats.

As of the end of 2006, there were 2.09 million foreigners registered for permanent and non-permanent residency in Japan, including those for work and study.

Among them, Koreans form the largest group at 28.7 percent of all foreigners, followed by a rapidly rising number of Chinese, and Brazilians — many with Japanese ancestry.

Universal Studio of Japan, USJ

The universal Studio of Japan, lacated in Osaca, is a good place to visit. It is a kind of entertainment place for tourist, although lacal, national or international, like Disney land and Disney sea. A small different may be that the USJ seems to be for Adults while the Disney land and sea are rather for chindren. In the studio, there are a number of enjoyable activities we should try. The first impression is often the achitectural style, decoration, arrangement and management of the infrastruture attached with several facilities in site. Some buildings are disigned just like those in cartoon, some are in modern style while others might take ones back decades ago. In addtion to this, gardens, trees, streetlights and water mill are lift up, giving that great place more beauty and making it a romantic spot for, maybe, Lovers??? lolz...Moreover, we can take not only many ride attrations like Roller Caster (Not recommended...lol...), Spider man and Jurassic park but also we can enjoy some kind of show attrations like 3D or 4D movie and so on. In brief, It is amazing to visit USJ especially if u haven't been at kind of place yet. However, it is recommended to go with friends or maybe lovers (best choice) for u might have to wait for long time (about 1hour) just to take one attration.

New year 2008

December 31th, the last day of 2007, was a really a happy but exhausting day, Year End's day. There were a number of activities such as community presentation, party, contest, dance, count down and bowling. As can be seen in the photo, it was already 5:48am after playing bowling, but we were still standing in the subway station waiting for train, not to go back home and sleep, but to have breakfast. Although it was that late, we seemed to be enegetic. For instance, a man in the photos still had a big smile with a giving thumb while taking the photo. He probably wanted to show his style or his being happy and still willing to go on or maybe he just gave the photo taker appreciation and encouragement!. The photo also indicates the stronger relationship among the members of our community for we did go, chat, sit, stand and take photo together. Moreover it proves the equality between man and woman or boy and girl...lolz...of Cambodian students in chubu and maybe in Japan as the whole. In the photo, if looking closer, we can see two ladies but actually there were few more behind the photographer. It shows that lady also can go out and play at night like man. In short, it is really good and beneficial to have that kind of celebration and we hope there would be more that kind of event...lolz...
